“Als ich ‘Dancing Queen’ im Autoradio hörte, blieb mir das Herz stehen” – Antje mit 9 Jahren im Italienurlaub
Zurück in Gütersloh/Westfalen fängt Antje an, Klavier zu spielen.
Die verstaubte, strenge Klavierlehrerin Frau Englisch bewegt Antje, zur Western-Gitarre zu wechseln. Antje entdeckt in der einzigen Musikschule am Ort den Genuss, Musik zu machen und zu singen. Sie schleppt ihre Gitarre von jetzt an überall mit hin, spielt die Liederfibel rauf und runter und singt ABBA-Songs im heimischen Jugendzimmer – “Thank you for the music, Benny & Björn!”
“Antje muss nach hinten, die singt zu laut”- In der Realschule im Musikunterricht
Dermassen “angespornt” vom Musiklehrer, fängt Antje mit 16 Jahren eine Erzieherausbildung an, in der sie am liebsten mit den Kindern Musik macht und singt. In der Mittagspause setzt sie sich ans Kirchenklavier und schreibt ihre ersten Songs.
Mit 20 Jahren zieht es Antje in die Mauerstadt Berlin. Auf einer Party trifft sie Stefanie Bonse und sie gründen das Folk/Pop Duo ” Married in Milwaukee”. Die beiden spielen Cover-Songs von den Indigo Girls und Antjes eigene Songs und treten in Berliner Clubs auf. Ihr Gitarrenlehrer bringt sie auf die Idee, sich für die Talentförderung der Musikschulen zu bewerben. Sie (und auch Stefanie) überzeugen die Kommission.

Nach zwei Jahren intensiver Ausbildung in Gesang, Gitarre, Klavier und Gehörbildung wechselt Antje vom Wedding ans Berklee College of Music, Boston, USA.
Dort, wo Diana Krall, Melissa Etheridge, John Mayer und viele andere ihre Karrieren starteten, gehört Antje viermal in Folge zu den Gewinnern des Berklee Songwriting Wettbewerbs. Ebenso gewinnt sie den renommierten Vince Gill Award für “Songwriting and Outstanding Musicianship”. Nach drei Jahren steht sie David Bowie gegenüber, der ihr mit einem lachenden blauen und braunen Auge ihr Diplom in Songwriting und Gesang überreicht.

2000 nimmt Antje ihre gleichnamige Debüt-CD auf, die von der Kritik begeistert aufgenommen wird. Das Lied “Without an End” wird für die Frauen-CD “Shekinah” ausgewählt und bei SONY RECORDS veröffentlicht. Ein Jahr lang gibt sie Konzerte von New Hampshire bis Cape Cod, bevor sie Ende 2000 nach Brooklyn, New York zieht.
Wer guckt um 13 Uhr Fernsehen? – 13 Millionen Amerikaner!
Da die Millionengagen noch nicht fliessen, baut Antje neben ihrer Gesangs- und Songwritingkarriere – back to the roots – ein Business mit Musikgruppen für Kinder auf. Bald ist ein Teil von Brooklyn fest in ihrer Geschäftshand.
2002 wird sie von der bekannten Musikagentin Barbara Jordan bei einem ihrer Auftritte in New York für TV-Serien entdeckt und für das Seriensongwriting engagiert. Seitdem kann man Antjes Lieder und Stimme bei allen grossen täglich gesendeten US-Soaps hören. Einer dieser Songs “There for you” schaffte es wegen seiner grossen Beliebtheit auf die CD “Songs for the Soaps – Favorite Songs for “The Young and the Restless”, Amerikas Seifenoper Nr.1 mit den höchsten Einschaltquoten.
Was Antje sich noch wünscht – “Schmetterlinge im Bauch”
Nach neun Jahren am East River zieht es Antje zurück an die Spree, wo ihr Kinder-Musik-Business “music together” boomt und nach einem Live-Interview auf Radio Eins auch das deutsche TV Interesse an ihren Songs zeigt. Sie schreibt und produziert mit dem Komponisten und Gitarristen Pivo Deinert, der auch ihre grade erschienen CD” Hey little bird” arrangiert und produziert hat sowie mit dem Schlagzeuger Hans Hafner Songs für den amerikanischen Markt.
Antjes Lieder im Folk/Pop Stil kommen manchmal sanft, manchmal rockig daher und immer direkt aus ihrem Herzen. Sie tritt regelmäßig in Berlin auf, sowie weiterhin in den Staaten.

Antje loves cities with a capital “B”
“The first I time I heard ‘Dancing Queen’ on our family car radio my heart almost stopped beating” – Antje during an Italian vacation at age 9
Back in Guetersloh/Westphalia, Antje takes up the piano. Her somewhat old-fashioned and strict piano teacher Mrs. Englisch makes her switch to Western guitar. In the only local music school Antje discovers the joy of making music and singing. She begins dragging her guitar with her everywhere she goes, she plays her little songbook inside out, and she sings passionatly ABBA songs in her room – “Thank you for the music, Benny and Bjorn!”

Thus “encouraged” by her music teacher, Antje starts training as a kindergarden teacher when she is 16; what she enjoys most in the course of her training is making music and singing with children. Lunch breaks find her at the church piano, where she writes her first songs.
At the age of 20 Antje moves to Berlin, the city by the Wall. She meets Stefanie Bonse at a party, and together they found the folk pop duo “Married in Milwaukee” . They cover songs by the Indigo Girls and also play Antjes own songs, appearing at Berlin clubs. Her guitar instructor recommends applying to the music schools’ talent promotion program – both she and Stefanie convince the commission.

After two years of in-depth education in voice, guitar, piano and ear training, Antje moves on from the district of Wedding/Berlin to the Berklee College of Music, Boston/USA. At the same place where Diana Krall, Melissa Etheridge, John Mayer and many others started their careers, Antje is among the winners of the Berklee Songwriting Contest four years in a row. She also wins the prestigious Vince Gill Award for Songwriting and Outstanding Musicianship. After three years she receives her diploma in Songwriting and Voice from none other than David Bowie, who hands her the paper with laughter in his eyes- one of them brown, the other one blue!

In the year 2000 Antje records her debut CD ” antje” , which is received by the critics with enthusiasm. The song “Without an end” is selected for the women’s CD “Shekinah” and released by EPIC Records. All through that year she is touring the States from New Hampshire to Cape Cod before moving to Brooklyn, New York.

As the seven-digit contracts still haven’t started coming in, Antje goes back to the roots – along with her singer/songwriter career she starts a business with music groups for children. Soon she has a considerable part of Brooklyn firmly in her business grip.
In 2002 the prominent music agent Barbara Jordan discovers Antje during one of her New York appearances and starts her on writing songs for TV. Her voice and songs can be heard ever since on virtually all US daily soaps. One of the songs, ” There for you”, was so well-received it even made it on the CD “Songs for the Soaps – Favorite Songs for ‘The Young and the Restless’”, being America’s number one daytime soap opera.
Something Antje still hopes for? Butterflies!
After nine years on the East River Antje moves back to the Spree river of Berlin, where ” Music Together”, her business of exposing children to music, starts to boom. After a live interview on Radio Eins, German TV stations also express an interest in her songs. She writes and produces together with the composer and guitarist Pivo Deinert, who is also a part of ” Married in Milwaukee ” – among other things they collaborate on music for the TV series “Schmetterlinge im Bauch” (“Butterflies”) for SAT1. Another of her “partners in crime” is the drummer and producer Hans Hafner; together they keep working for the American market.
Antje’s folk/pop songs are sometimes tender and sometimes rocking , but they always come straight from the heart. She regularly performs in Berlin as well as in the States.
